AN EXCITING FUTURE FOR SELF & SOCIETY – 50 NEXT YEAR!
Dear AHPb Member,
We hope this finds you well and thriving in these challenging times. The Association for Humanistic Psychology and Self & Society will celebrate our 50th birthday next year, in 2022. This could be a great opportunity for extending the reach of our work and the journal’s readership (you will have received the latest issue with this letter to members).
But we need your help!
After recent constructive conversations with humanistic colleagues in Ireland and the USA, the Board plans to seek agreements with kindred organisations in Britain, Europe and beyond in order to make Self & Society more widely available. This is very exciting.
Yet this new initiative comes when we are seeking a new Administrator from March 2022 (see below), when our team is small and overstretched, our finances chug along at the bare minimum needed for sustainability, and the Covid situation has stopped us from running the in-person events so important for a Humanistic Psychology organisation. Paying a bookkeeper, which we now need to do, will strain our resources further.
As with many organisations like ours, it is multiple, voluntary ‘labours of love’ that sustain us; but we now need more than this if we are to survive and thrive, and to give Humanistic Psychology and Self & Society the public profile they deserve. We want to play our part in making the world more humanistic, and we hope you can join us.
Do you have some spare time to take on the role of Administrator for the AHPb from next March, or just to do a few hours of administration a week? Or could you be a new board member; a treasurer; or perhaps someone who can promote interest on social media? This is not paid work, with at most a stipend – but it is wonderfully rewarding.
Please do consider joining us in any way you can, and becoming part of our wonderful and warm humanistic team. Or if you are unable to, do you know of anyone who may be able to help at all? Recruiting a new member or two would also be great!
In addition (but only if you can afford it), any financial support you could offer would be extremely helpful – perhaps by voluntarily increasing your subscription level, or making a one-off donation to a special reserve fund that we’re earmarking to finance the above changes. We already have one generous donation (£500) to hit the ground running.
If there’s anything you feel you can offer, do please contact us at email@example.com, or by post at AHPb, BM BOX 3582, London WC1N 3XX. We’d love to hear from you! In the mean time, we hope you enjoy the new issue of S&S – the final print issue before our 50th birthday next year!
With our love and warm wishes,
Lucy Scurfield (Chair), Dina Glouberman and Richard House [the AHPb Board]
