Abstract:

Nothing here is new, this is not yet another therapy model, but some ideas, techniques and approaches drawn from others which I'd like to share. Concepts of the continuum and its polarities work powerfully for me as a person and they seem to work for my clients (sometimes). Although valuable for therapeutic work, polarities are also a powerful means of self-exploration and symbolic representation of inner states. They make overt the splits and limitations within ourselves and out in the world, leading to self understanding and resolution of dilemmas, impasses, conflicting choices and disputes between couples. Their symbolic representation can be created by means of guided imagining; or using art materials, clay, sound, and body posture; or simply being different ‘selves’ at opposite ends of the sofa.

Abstract:

Meet John Smith. He's twenty-seven years old and a dishwasher in a local cafeteria. John was the second child, his sister being five years older, born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith. They married at the start of the war, before Mr. Smith went off in 1940 to fight for his country. When they sent him back from the front in 1945, he got a job as a teller in the local post office and he is still working there now. John was born a year later—a fairly joyous occasion in the Smith household.

We have been asked if we would advertise an organisation which has been set up to legalise the use of cannabis. Clearly some people enjoy using pot and feel that with caffeine, alcohol and nicotine freely available, the legal restrictions on cannabis are unfair.

Abstract:

In Humanistic Psychology the problem of Awareness is a touchy subject. Everyone seems to be aware of its meaning in varying degrees. Some explanations are technical, some intuitive, some metaphysical or philosophical, while others are nothing more than ridiculous. For the purposes of this dialogue I would like to draw attention to the Gestalt interpretation of Awareness, as I feel that technically, it affords the greatest scope for further study, and as such, may well produce—once it is thoroughly understood—a foundation on which to build a comprehensive, and down-right meaningful Growth Movement.
